It's short but does a lot!Each spread features a simple comparision of 2 different dinosaurs. It's a simple book of opposites that feature vibrant water color illustrations that are wonderfully painted to illustrate the comparison concepts.
"Dinosaur clean, dinosaur slimmy." "Dinosaur fit, dinosaur fat." "Dinosaur short or very very long." spiky / lumpy etc.etc. It rhymes comfortably throughout. I've taken my examples out of order. But that's the idea of comparing opposites.
The fierce dinosaur is smaller than the meek one which is huge! That's an interesting juxtaposition, much like in real life!
I love it for the simple comparison of opposites with fun visuals!

very good condition for a used book. it was for a baby shower. it was a book I read to my children and they loved it. it was a hit
My little girl loves this book! She smiles the whole time I'm reading it. She thinks the ending is so funny, it may be because I act like I'm gonna bite her, just the dinos are doing with their lunch. She laughs every time! She was about 12 months when we first read it to her and she is now 19 months, so I would say the age range for this book is pretty broad.
Beautiful pictures. Wonderful rhymes! This was a favorite in my house for 20yrs and is now my 2yr old nephew's favorite! Came just as described and in a timely manner.
Although most of the pages only contain a two words, my son requests this book regularly. He likes dinosaurs, and so the fact that they are simply featured rather than discussed is okay since a book with this degree of simplicity could not possibly provide a substantial amount of information regarding the great variety in this domain. I think he really enjoys the opposites provided here, especially when they are read with matching inflection or tone.
We got this book for my son when he was about 1 1/2 years old. In the past year, he has read it a ton, but he still likes to go through it every few nights. A couple months ago, we came across a pop-up version. It has the same words (Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak, etc...), but the dinosaurs are pop-up and each pop-up does something when you open/close the page. For example, one dino has his tongue go in and out, another lifts a boulder with his feet. The pop-up action makes this somewhat short book last much longer, as the kids move the dinos to make them 'do stuff.'
You can't go wrong with either one, but I'd search out the pop-up version for an even more enjoyable reading experience.
My daughter is 2 and a half and she loves books. Her previous collection was embarrassing as the bindings were falling apart and the corners were all destroyed. It's not that she destroys them on purpose, but when she finds a board book that she loves, it goes with her everywhere friends houses, restaurants, car rides, doctor visits, etc. Needless to say it was time to update her book collection and I took a few titles that were age appropriate according to Parents Magazine, and "Dinosaur ROAR!" is one of her new ones. SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT! She loved it when she unwrapped it for Christmas and doesn't let it rest lol. It's become her new companion. She loves the pictures, the colors, and asks me to read it to her at least once a day. So if you're looking for a book that your toddler will like, I definitely recommend this one since my daughter carries it along now where ever she goes )
My daughter started showing an interest in dinosaurs at 2.5 years old, so I was looking for fun and cute dino books she would like. This one fit the bill. The dinosaurs are "realistic" enough, and not too cartoony (no Barney here), but not too scary either. My daughter especially loves the little tiny dinosaurs which she calls the "babies."
Dino fan kids will get a kick out of "Dinosaur Roar!" But, I think this book would be a great book even for kids that aren't that into dinosaurs. The book goes through different "types" of dinos, highlighting opposites - strong & weak; sweet & fierce; clean & dirty. These are things any kid can learn from and enjoy.
